Mirriam Ndungu

State: Queensland

Club: Ipswich United Bowls Club

Bowl Used: Edge factors and Raptors

Why do you use Edge Bowls? I find that they are reliable on all surfaces and have a more desired or preferred line.

How and when did you start bowling? I started bowling in October 2010, back home in Kenya, where a friend had mentioned going for social bowling. My curiosity got the best of me, as I hadn't ever heard of the sport. This friend was kind enough to show me the basics and I caught on fast. By the end of the day I was playing well, all thanks to my background in competitive sports! After that, there was no turning back! 9 months later, I was in the National Team and won Silver at the African States Tournament.

Career Achievements: I have represented Kenya at the Commonwealth Games, I have won medals in the Singles at Multiple African Championships and have been nominated as the Most Valuable player in the same event.

I also qualified Kenya for the 2016 World Bowls Championships for the first time. My very impressive outcome has opened many doors in as far as Sports Leadership in Kenya is concerned.

Which bowlers do you enjoy playing with or against? I enjoy playing singles, but in a Team, I have enjoyed playing with Ester Reagan.

What would you do if you weren’t bowling? I would be cooking, or playing basketball or hunting for a movie to watch!

What is your biggest accomplishment in bowls to date? Representing my country at Commonwealth games and also qualifying for the World Championships!

What would be your ultimate bowls achievement? Podium finish at Commonwealth Games or Olympics (hopefully bowls will on day be played at that level).

Do you have any heroes or people who inspire you? Nelson Mandela would be ranking up there. Usain Bolt's story also keeps me going.

Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by? Train Hard and win easy is the motto I abide by.

What song best describes your work ethic? Most of the songs would be the ones we sing in Church, they talk more about God than me.. :)

What’s the most interesting, non-bowls related thing about you? I sing in a church band, started singing in the church band when I was very young.
